Arlington Economic Development
(AED): For nine years until summer 2015, AED sponsored an innovative capacity building initiative that supported six nonprofits over a year through consultation and coaching. Nonprofit Leadership was AED's contract partner responsible for delivering the service to the six nonprofits. Richard Brewster worked directly with the organizations and recruited and coordinated partner consultants. The support provided has included strategic and business planning, fund raising advice at both strategic and tactical level, senior team development, one-on-one coaching of Executive Directors, board development and advice on board and ED succession planning. Richard worked directly with 31 nonprofits through the program, including:
Alliance for Housing Solutions, Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing, Arlington Arts Center, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, Aspire (formerly Greenbrier Learning Center.)
BRAVO (Buyers and Renters Arlington Voice), CrisisLink, Culpepper Garden, Edufuturo, Encore Stage and Studio, Education Theatre Company, Jane Franklin Dance, MVLE and the Washington Area Community Investment Fund.
The results were a wide range of improvements in the nonprofits' capacity, including financial turnaround, a renewed sense of direction, a full-blown strategic plan and a high-functioning board.
