Strategic planning, board development, Executive Director (ED) coaching and ED transition
AAC is a leading contemporary arts center whose mission is to present and support new work by regional artists in the Mid-Atlantic states and so to increase awareness, appreciation of and involvement in, the visual arts in Arlington County VA and the region. AAC has nine exhibition galleries, working studios for thirteen artists, and three classrooms.
From 2012 to 2014, Richard conducted a full organizational assessment, engaged board and staff in a full strategic planning process and completed a strategic plan, supported the AAC board through an unexpected transition of its President, coached the ED in developing her skills in the role, supported the introduction of a new approach to securing new board members and provided initial advice to the President and Vice-President. The results were a full strategic plan that has guided the work of AAC since, a successful transition to a new board President, and the election of significant numbers of effective new board members in each of the last three years.
In 2015, Richard facilitated a board retreat on Executive Director transition after the ED secured a promotion into another arts group.
